Frederikke Jul Vedelsby b. Cph. (DK)
Frederikke Jul Vedelsby is working across drawing, text, and time-based media. In her work she is accessing expanded states of consciousness, is suggesting irregularity – and addresses the limitations of understanding itself.
Graduated with an MFA from the Malmö Art Academy, Sweden (2020), studied at the Maumaus Independent Study Programme, Portugal (2021), and specialized in critical writing at Biskops Arnö, Sweden (2022). Recent residencies at Materia Abierta, Mexico, DIA, Greece, Can Serrat, Spain, LungA, Iceland and a workshop at Fundation Botín led by Roni Horn and Isabel de Naverán in Santander, Spain (2023). Vedelsby has been exhibited at matteocantarella, Copenhagen, Denmark, Kunsthal Kongegaarden, Kørsor, Denmark, Malmö Konsthall, Malmö, Sweden, Delfi, Malmö, Den Frie Udstillingsbygning, Copenhagen, Denmark, Heima, Seyðisfjörður, Iceland and at The Beat Museum, San Francisco, US among others. Vedelsby has engaged in various teaching roles, screenings, and publications. She has taught at institutions such as the Fatamorgana Danish School of Art Photography, Copenhagen Denmark and the LungA School, Seyðisfjörður, Iceland and has had her work published in Kulturo Magazine (DK). Her films have been screened at venues like aCinema at the Woodland Book Center in Milwaukee, WI, US, the Flat Earth Cinema in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland and at Shower in Seoul, Korea. She has received grants from the Danish Art Foundation and the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
